As part of the Department of Health’s streamlining of the central office and decentralization of its functions to improve the quality of health services, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute is designated as one of the National Reference Laboratories pursuant to D.O. No. 393-E s.2000. The NKTI Medical Laboratory is designated as the NRL for Hematology, Immunohematology, Immunopathology, Automated Urinalysis, and Anatomic Pathology for Renal Diseases and other unassigned organ system diseases.
The NRL provides referral and reference laboratory services with the use of state of the art equipment, manned by expert personnel. These modern facilities shall take the lead during disease outbreaks or epidemiological investigations. In pursuit of providing quality services nationwide, the NRL shall provide training needs of laboratories for basic and new methods of proficiency.
Mission and Vision
The NRL shall provide quality laboratory services to both community and hospital-based health programs nationwide that are at par with International quality programs and standards.
The NRL is composed of laboratories with expert, dedicated and proactive personnel, mandated to provide excellent laboratory referral services through state of the art facilities, to train laboratory personnel, to maintain quality assurance program for laboratory tests and to evaluate test kits and reagents in coordination with other concerned government agencies.
Quality Assurance Survey
The Hematology survey being conducted by the NKTI-NRL was first initiated in November 2008. The program aims to promote quality assurance among various laboratories by comparing and analyzing their results using 1 unknown sample. This is a mandatory requirement among laboratories, initially at NCR, to promote quality services in all laboratories nationwide.
Participation in Hematology survey is simple and easy.

- We will send you the official receipt together with the unknown sample.
Samples are always accompanied by instruction sheets for testing and sending of your results.
- Certificate of Participation will be mailed together with the survey result
after 3-4 months.
At present, the NRL for Immunohematology is accepting trainees for Blood Banking / Hematology and Serology. Training is per request basis and shall be arranged with the Training Coordinator at least 1 month before the target training date.
