Blood Donor Services

Process of Donation During Blood Drives

  • Fill up donor interview sheet
    • Donors must fill out interview sheet legibly, completely and truthfully.
  • Proceed to donor assessment
    • You will be asked some questions regarding your health, lifestyle, and disease risk factors. All of this informations are confidential.
  • Blood Extraction for hemoglobin and blood typing determination
    • Your blood will be taken for hemoglobin and blood typing determination
  • Blood donation proper
    • Blood donation will take five (5) to ten (10) minutes.
    • Please inform the NKTI personnel if you are allergic to Povidone iodine.
  • Donors are required to rest for ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes
  • Post Donation:
    • After donating, it is recommended that you increase your fluid intake for the next 24 to 48 hours.
    • Avoid strenuous physical exertion, heavy lifting or pulling with the donation arm for about five hours
    • Eat well-balanced meals for the next 24 hrs.
    • Smoking and alcohol consumption are not recommended after donation.
    • Although donors seldom experience discomfort after donating;
      • If you feel light-headed, lie down until the feeling passes.
      • If some bleeding occurs after removal of the bandage, apply pressure to the site and raise your arm for three to five minutes.
      • If bruising or bleeding appears under skin, apply cold pack periodically to the bruised area during the first 24 hrs, then warm moist towel intermittently.

    Donors who are 16 to 17 years of age are required to bring parents’ or guardian’s consent.
